Sonny and Cher
Obsession Level: Totally Groovy!
Ok, so admittedly I was too young to love Sonny and Cher when they came on television originally, but that didn't mean that my Flower Child self didn't find them! My love for Sonny and Cher is also tied, obviously, to my love for Cher, but as to which came first, it's a case of the chicken and the egg. The Sonny and Cher show aired on TVLand when I was growing up and I liked watching it at night with my dad.
I wanted to be a hippie, and I was throughout Junior High and High School. Luckily for me, so was my best friend! Our fashion tastes left us a little less than popular, but it didn't really matter to us. Our theme song was always "I Got You, Babe".
Who couldn't fall in love with Sonny and Cher? Their awesome clothes were reason enough to watch them! After all, it wasn't easy to try and copy that style without watching them over and over. Their songs are catchy, and even though Sonny doesn't have a typically great voice, there's something endearing about it. And Cher? Where do you even begin? Her voice was great in the Sonny and Cher era, and even though it's been through a lot changes, her sound is still amazing.
The first time I saw "Good Times," I was in love. It was so creative! Clearly, if you don't know which genre of movie you want to act in (or watch) why not indulge in a "metamovie" that covers everything from Westerns to Tarzan movies? No matter what level of cheesiness may come with the movie, it's still a gem, as was "Chastity".
I still miss the Sonny and Cher Show, unfortunately they don't make good variety shows like that anymore. That's what we lack in a society that seems to want to watch nothing more than a bunch of programs where houses full of people that don't get along with each other spend their time screaming at each other and cheating on each other with the other members of the house. Sonny and Cher impress me, most reality t.v. shows, do not.
