Song Pop

Song Pop

Obsession Level: Why Won't You Play Me Back NOW?!?

I'm pretty sure that just about anyone who has found the internet has also found Facebook and knows that it offers a wide variety of games for anyone looking to blow a couple of minutes/hours/days of their life.  I also know that many people won't admit to playing these games, insisting that they never play (and would never waste their precious time that way, being the EXTREMELY productive citizens that they are).  I call bull on that one, especially since many of them don't even realize that you can see in a variety of ways what games your friends are playing.

Now I have admittedly sampled a wide variety of Facebook games in the past few days.  I've been on a sort of semi-vacation and have been giving my brain a well deserved rest from the taxing work that I normally do.  This means that I have attempted to entertain myself with the most mindless things possible...imagine solitaire marathons and you'll understand what I'm saying.  I could write reviews of many of the games on Facebook at this point, but that may come later.  Today we're just going to talk about one: Song Pop.

I love music.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE music.  I like many different kinds of music, some more than others.  My tastes typically go for older rock music (50's, 60's, 70's, 80's rock), country music (let's say from the 90's back), love songs (from already mentioned eras), and especially it focuses on artists that I am a fan of.  My lack of contemporary music knowledge does not come from a distaste for the music, rather it comes from seriously not having had the time in the past three years to listen to the radio.  It also comes, I admit, from stockpiling music I do like on my IPOD (named Elton) and then just plugging that in while I'm in the car.  I do that because I know I'll like most of what is on there (yes there are things on there that I'm like "What in the world is this?!) and because I can change songs quickly.  I'm an impatient person and I hardly ever make it through an entire song.

All that being said, I think this game is so much fun.  It's positively addicting.  I like the challenge of seeing how well I know music.  I also like getting to hear snippets from songs that I have never heard before because they come from categories that I have little to no knowledge of (think Contemporary Rap).  There are, however, some tweaks that I would make if they let me change the app a little (and we all know that things would run much better in this world if everyone got my opinion on how to do things).

1.  I hate that you only get to choose between three categories to challenge someone.  If I have a bunch of different lists, then I'd like to be able to choose between all of the ones I own.

2.  I hate that each challenge is only 5 songs.  It's too much fun to limit you to 5 songs.  I think 10 would be way better.

3.  The waiting for your friends to play back is excruciating.  It makes you kind of like a crazy person because you're sitting there, staring at this stupid game and wondering what in the world your friends are doing that they're not playing back.  You lose all sense of the fact that people have a life.  It's really bad.

4.  I think that they should have a "play alone" option.  This option would let people like me just sit there and play themselves.  It wouldn't be like winning challenges, rather it would be a separate option that would allow you to "beat your own high score".  It would also allow for endless play for someone who has decided to spend their entire day doing completely useless activities instead of making them go in search of other games or explore other obsessions.  I think it would be a nice little addition.

So there you have it, my first game review.  I recommend Song Pop to anyone who likes music, but I warn you that you may turn into a totally obsessed person and you may start to become annoyed at your friends for taking too long to feed your obsession.  If you'll excuse me, now I have a challenge to go take care of!  LOL

Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton

Obsession Level: Five Alarm Obsession

So, Dolly Parton is probably my longest running obsession.  My love of her started early, at about age 3 or so, and that was not just a few years ago.  I can't figure out how anyone can't love her.  Between her amazingly unique style, her beautiful voice, and her skills as a singer, writer, musician, and actress, she's all the way around IMPRESSIVE!  Not to mention that she's just a great person and her giggle is infectious.

My very first cassette tape was "Jolene" and I played it over and over in my plastic pink tape player.  I regularly received cassettes of hers from my parents as payment for straight As in school or other jobs well done.  I watched her on T.V. every chance I got, saw any movie that I was able to get my hands on, acted out scenes with her with my Barbies, and made her a part of almost all my "pretend" games.

I read her autobiography, which I need to read again if I ever have time, since I'm sure that I was far too young at the time to really understand everything.  I even remember the point in life where I realized what some of her songs were about (since they covered themes that my brain couldn't comprehend at the time, though I made up very creative meanings for them), and I also realize the first time that I figured out what Best Little Whorehouse in Texas was about.  I'm sure I wasn't the only child who had an obsession with that "glamorous" life before I knew what they were actually "selling" at the Chicken Ranch.  LOL

I think maybe my only disappointment in regard to Dolly Parton had to do with my first visits to Dollywood and the Dixie Stampede.  Both are great places when you consider what they are supposed to be, but as a child I only knew that the brochures all had Dolly on them, and I thought they would be like meccas to Dolly where she must always be present and therefore be there for me to meet.  I was a little disappointed when I realized that I wasn't going to get to meet her, but I was easily soothed by a t shirt, which I still have.  It just goes to show that children are easily placated.

I've been so crazy about her for so long that I've actually managed to drag people to her fan base, even people who "hate" country music.  You might not be a fan of country music, but I can't believe you wouldn't be a fan of Dolly Parton!

I'm sure my obsession with her will be a recurring theme throughout  my posts here as I revisit obsessions with her movies, songs, etc.

My Goals

Ok, so now  that I've finally figured out what I'm going to do for my Blog, I'm pretty excited.

Here's the background info.  I have a pretty addictive personality.  That's not to say that I'm addicted to designer drugs or substances, it's not that kind of addiction.  Rather, I get very interested in things very quickly. They are obsessions for me.  It might be a movie, actor, actress, T.V. show, hobby, food, song, singer, etc.  It could be anything.  When I'm really obsessed with something, I have to find out everything I can and bury myself in it.  Then, sometimes the obsession dies out, and sometimes it just goes latent because something else has come along.

Sometimes one obsession leads to another, and some of them are short lived.  I also try to explore the obsessions of my friends and family to find out if there's anything there that I like.

So this is what I'm going to do here, I'm going to talk about things that interest me and give my opinions on them.  Knowing me, there may be several blog posts a day on days like today where I have time to work on it. Other times they might be sparse.

I welcome questions and comments, but please be respectful of others, otherwise I'll be deleting your posts.  I'll be including pictures and such to make the blog visually stimulating.  I'll probably get those from Google images, so no copyright infringement intended.

If you read this, I hope you enjoy!

Introduction

Ok, so for ages I've wanted to blog.  I just thought it might be fun and offer a bit of stress relief.  I didn't, however, ever start blogging because I didn't know what to write about.  I'm a very boring person.  My life isn't that interesting, my hobbies aren't that great, I'm not really a "foodie" and politics aren't my thing.  Really I had no idea where to start.

Now I've decided that it doesn't matter.  I love things like movies, music, tv shows, and celebrities, so that's what I'll blog about.  I can just share my musings on things that I like.  Then, even if no one reads my blog, at least I had fun doing it!

If you've stumbled on to my blog, there's no telling what you might find here.  I welcome any readers and I'll be happy to read any of your comments.  All I ask is that everyone who posts here be respectful and don't insult each other.  If anything is out of control, it will be removed.

Thanks for stopping by!  Y'all come back now, ya hear?
