Duck Dynasty

Duck Dynasty

Obsession Level: It Quacks Me Up!!!

When I first saw this television show I wasn't sure how I felt about it.  It was one of those days, though, when I had nothing else to do so I figured that I might as well go with it.  Once I was about three episodes in and I understood the show and figured out the personalities of the different people in the Robertson clan, I was hooked.  This show is absolutely hilarious!

Phil Robertson is the head of the family.  He's also the one that started the family business that made them millionaires.  Despite his money, though, he remains a simple man, often giving rants about children in America today and all their high tech devices.  Phil's a simple man who is all about survival and connecting to nature.  He's the man that went to career day at the school and taught a room full of Junior High kids how to clean a duck.

Miss Kay is Phil's wife and the typical Southern wife.  She keeps the family together and surely keeps them fed.  She's always in the kitchen whipping up some jambalaya or fried squirrel (she likes the brains).  The family listens to what she says, and in the end Miss Kay always gets what she wants, whether it's a sack full of frogs to cook or a couple of goats to raise.

Uncle Si is Phil's brother.  Si is probably the funniest person on the show and my favorite.  He's always talking about Vietnam and he tells hilarious stories that he promises are always 95% true. The fun part is figuring out which 5% he's added in just for color.  He never goes anywhere without his signature plastic cup and his gallon of sweet tea.

Then there's Willie.  He's the CEO of the company and one of the sons of Phil and Kay.  He considers himself the sophisticated one of the family and even buys a winery (despite the fact he knows nothing about making wine) which results in some pretty disgusting wine at his Duck Commander wine tasting.  Willie usually has his hands full trying to keep all of his employees (several of which are related to him) under control and hard at work when they'd rather be playing hard in the woods.

Willie's wife is Korie.  She is usually, like the other wives, just waiting to hear what the Robertson men are going to get into next.

Jase is Willie's brother.  He has no interest in being the CEO and has very little interest in working.  He's the one in charge of making duck calls, and at least he's good at that.   He's also absolutely hilarious and comes up with a lot of ideas that others have to be involved in.  He and Willie are highly competitive and that leads to some pretty interesting (and often funny) competitions between the two.

Missy is Jase's wife.  She's not on the show very often, but every now and again she makes an appearance with one of the other wives.

Jep is one of the other sons who is rarely on the show.  He is married to Jessica.  There's another son too, apparently, but to date we haven't met him.

The show is in its second season and already shaping up to be even more entertaining this season than it was last season.  If you like simple shows that are just good for entertainment, then this show is definitely the one for you.  Give it a chance and I bet you'll be thrilled every Wednesday night to see what the family is up to!
